DAILY MAIL
Michael Simkins has been on our stages and screens for a wonderful 35 years , performing in the West End, in rep and touring productions, in musicals, films, soaps, ads and on the radio. He is a regular contributor to some national newspapers on all matters theatrical, and uniquely qualified to give us a glimpse of life under the spotlight.
THE RULES OF ACTING is a book for anyone – the budding thesp, the armchair TV critic, the theatre-lover, anyone with an interest in the arts, in all its forms. It is like having a chat with Michael in his dressing room, providing practical advice to would-be actors and giving the layman a scurrilous, hilarious romp through auditions and beyond. Should you go to Drama School? How do you get an agent – and how do you get rid of one? What is the best way to deal with audition rejections or bad reviews? And just what is the protocol for Oscar night?
About the Author: Michael has appeared in over 100 theatre productions, from the RSC to Fringe and West End shows. He has starred in the musicals Chicago and Mamma Mia and made countless TV appearances (often as policemen or unsuspecting husbands). Michael is currently in Eastenders. Recent credits include Foyle’s War, Doctors and A Touch of Cloth as well as silver-screen appearances in films such as Mike Leigh’s Topsy-Turvy and The Iron Lady. He has worked alongside luminaries as diverse as Meryl Streep and Ken Dodd. Michael lives in London with his wife, actress Julia Deakin.
