Publishing Your Own Book: From Idea to Reality Local Printmaker Kim Major-George Talks About Her Experience with Self-Publishing

Tuesday 19 April 2011
7:30 pm

Kim Major-George, a local artist and print maker had no experience of publishing, yet she was determined to create a stunning full coloured technical print book on collagraph printing,
her area of expertise. She will talk about her very interesting but challenging self-publishing journey, overcoming many hurdles to finally achieve her new book, ent...itled Collagraph a Journey through Texture. This print book has been already well received by the art / print world and is being stocked by all main book retailers up and down the country.

Kim Major-George lives and works in her studio in Lilley, Hertfordshire, a village just outside of Hitchin. She has many years experience in printing. Her master classes and collagraph workshops, held at her studio throughout the year have become a very popular choice for students around the country. She will be at David’s Bookshop on Tuesday, 19 April at 7:30 pm with her fascinating story of self-publishing and with many of her wonderful collagraph prints and plates to see and feel.

Collagraph a Journey through Texture (£16.99) covers the fascinating print method of collagraph. This book is the result of Kim’s many years teaching collagraph in her very distinctive style. After using the tool of hand pulled collagraph printing as the first stage, she often uses many different hand embellishing technique to enhance the print (precious foils, iridescent threads and tarnished metals are her preferred options). These fascinating prints are exhibited and sold up and down the country and sold direct to collectors of original prints.

Tickets are free, but please call the bookshop on 01462 684631 to reserve a space. For more information or to arrange an interview with Kim Major-George, please contact Sally Hewitt on 01462 768 234 saras.perkins@virgin.net or Paul Wallace on 01462 684631 paul@davids-bookshops.co.uk.
