Kathy Lette Talks About and Signs her New Novel, The Boy Who Fell to Earth
Thursday 29 March 2012
7:30 pm
Told with Kathy Lette’s razor-sharp wit, this is a funny, quirky and tender story of a mother’s love for her son - and of a love affair that, due to psychological speed bumps, has no chance of ever running smoothly....
Meet Merlin. He’s Lucy’s bright, beautiful, precious son – who is also autistic. Since Merlin’s father, the reserved, cerebral, workaholic Jeremy, left them in the lurch shortly after Merlin’s diagnosis, Lucy has made Merlin the centre of her world. Struggling with the joys and tribulations of raising her adorable yet challenging child, Lucy doesn’t have room for any other man in her life... so why bother even trying to find one?
But when Lucy realises she’s becoming increasingly cynical about life (the woman’s turned into an alien from Planet Doom, according to her sister) , she finally resolves to dip a badly pedicured toe back into the world of dating. Thanks to Merlin’s quirky and embarrassing candor, things don’t go quite to plan... Yet just as Lucy is resolved to the solitary sexless life of an amoeba, the most imperfectly perfect man for her and her son lands on her doorstep. But then, so does Jeremy, begging for forgiveness and a second chance...
Kathy Lette is famous for her comic novels that speak directly to women, but this novel brings far more than just her trademark humour and wit. Drawing on her personal experiences of Asperger’s, the novel is heartbreaking and humble, heartwarming and hilarious, sometimes all on the same page. Touching, moving and memorable, this is Kathy Lette as you’ve never read her before.
Tickets are £3 but are redeemable against the price of the book.
