A Celebration of Winnie the Witch’s 25th Birthday
Monday 20 August 2012
3:00 pm
Join us and Winnie for a madcap, magical celebration of 25 years of Winnie and her cat Wilbur. Winnie, herself, will be there to take part in stories and games. There will also be Winnie books at discounted prices. This celebration is most suitable for four to seven-year-olds.
Just this once, children and adults can break the taboo about touching a black cat . . . as long as the cat is Winnie the Witch's famous black moggie Wilbur. For this summer is an official celebration of the 25th anniversary of these wonderful characters. Schools, bookshops and libraries plan to celebrate Winnie - a series of books written by Valerie Thomas and illustrated by Korky Paul which have sold more than five million copies worldwide since the first one appeared in 1987.
Valerie Thomas (author) lives in Australia where she taught before coming an educational consultant and writer. As well as taking Winnie the Witch on all kinds of adventures, Valerie loves to travel herself—but always by plane rather than broomstick.
Korky Paul (illustrator) was born in Zimbabwe but now lives in Oxford. His drawings appear in more than 25 Winne the Witch books as well as many other titles for children. Known (only to himself) ‘as the world’s greatest portrait artist’ he regularly visits schools to promote his passion for drawing.
This celebration is free but please call the bookshop on 01462 684 631 to book as places will be limited.
