Pam Ayres talks about and signs her new collection of poetry, You Made Me Late Again!
Tuesday 12 November 2013
6 pm
“When I say that Pam Ayres ought to be the Oxford Professor of Poetry, even the Poet Laureate, I am not being facetious ... Ayres uses simple verse forms - comic ballads or folk song idioms - to make poignant observations about tiresome husbands, gossiping wives, false teeth or battery hens. I find her work sweet and sour, gentle and sad, and often very moving in its wistfulway” Roger Lewis, Daily Mail
With more than fifty new poems from Britain’s favourite poet Pam Ayres, You Made Me Late Again! is a treat. From wishing your husband was more dashing to becoming a gran for the first time, Pam’s poems are observant, witty and poignant in equal measure. From exploding wardrobes, to knowing you must eat more fruit, to the dog being afraid of the toaster – the poems are beautifully crafted, and her subjects the everyday and the universal. Delightfully illustrated, most of the poems in You Made Me Late Again! are absolutely brand new, yet it also features several firm favourites from her stage shows.
About Pam Ayres: Pam Ayres has been a writer, broadcaster and entertainer for over 35 years since winning the talent show Opportunity Knocks in 1975, and she has become an audience favourite for her sharp perception of the comic detail of everyday life. Pam is the author of several bestselling poetry collections. Pam performs her solo stage show annually to sell-out audiences throughout Britain and around the world. In 2004 she was awarded the MBE.
