An Evening with Chris Priesley, writer for teens and adults

Thursday 19 September 2013
7 pm

When you settle down with a Chris Priestley novel you know that chills are never far away. With his new novel, Chris transports the reader to a frozen and claustrophobic ship where madness lies beneath a thin sheet of ice, and a young boy must grow quickly.

The Dead Men Stood Together embraces Chris Priestley’s knack for reinventing class stories that he first revealed in his Frankenstein inspired novel Mister Creecher. Taking the classic poem of The Rime of the Ancient Mariner as a base, the author weaves a tale that will appeal to readers of contemporary chillers and fans of Marcus Sedgwick and Patrick Ness.

About Chris Priesley: was a cartoonist and illustrator for many years, working for The Independent, The Economist, The Observer and many other newspapers and magazines. Ever since he was a teenager, Chris has loved unsettling and creepy stories, with fond memories of buying comics like House of Mystery and Strange Tales, watching classic BBC adaptations of M R James stories every Christmas and reading all manner of assorted weirdness from Edgar Allan Poe to Ray Bradbury. He is the author of The Tales of Terror series which has been shortlisted for numerous awards and won the Dracula Society’s Children of the Night Award for best book with a Gothic horror theme. His other books for Bloomsbury include Mister Creecher and The Dead of Winter.

David’s Bookshop is located on Eastcheap (SG6 3DE). Tickets are £2 but allow customers to buy the book at £7.99 (regular retail price is £10.99.) Tickets are available from David’s Bookshop and website on www.davids-bookshops.co.uk.
