Darkroom | Minor Pilot Launch Party

Saturday 15 March 2014

David's Music LIVE present another fantastic evening of FREE music, with our friends Darkroom and Minor Pilot in the shop to celebrate their respective recent/new releases!

This one's going to be brilliant. A must for all fans of rock/electronica/prog/kraut/fuzz/pop

We'll be kicking off with the music around 7pm - so come on down. Bring your friends and loved-ones.. They deserve a treat.

Darkroom’s music starts with improvisation and a unique approach to sound design. By turns beautiful and beautifully ugly, this is a very human music that always sounds ‘played’ not ‘programmed’ - despite the inevitable technology that produces it.

Their newest - and first double - album "Gravity's Dirty Work" was released in October of last year. begun as an exploration of early 90's electronica and its many sources, the album developed from extended improvisations through meticulous editing, layering and post-production into a coherent and timeless suite.
The trademark blurring of guitars, synthesiser and found sounds moves from the heavenly Beck meets Talk Talk atmospherics of Karhupuisto / Beautiful Retreat through apocalyptic foot-on-monitor fuzz mayhem at the end of the title track before closing with the eloquent scandinavian jazz-electronica fusion of A Pair A Part.

This album is truly fantastic. Available as a double LP in a beautiful gatefold sleeve designed by Carl Glover (ltd to 250copies), or as a CD - it's a joy to listen to and to hold!

Based in Hitchin(ish), Minor Pilot are four people playing some instrumental-ish, prog-ish, post-rock-ish music. The current lineup came together in late 2010, and have been slowly brewing since then. Their debut EP – Minor (and it’s accompanying remix disk – Major) – was recorded in the summer of 2012, and after much deliberation and dispute, was released in March 2013 as a double CD, celebrated with a monumental live show at David's Music - which at least one person left with a perforated eardrum, it was THAT good/loud! Since then, they've been taking their sounds further afield - figuratively and literally - with a whole raft of new songs, played out in new places to new audiences.

Now one year later (almost to the day) they're back in the shop to celebrate their new CD - The Enlightenment. A super limited, super cheap, entirely DIY hand-made and hand-printed CD - there will only ever be 30 of these in existence and they're not going to be very much money at all, so if you want one, you'll need to be at this gig! First come, first served, an all that!
