Alan Titchmarsh - Celebrity Gardener, Broadcaster and Writer - Introduces and Signs his Novel, Mr Gandy's Grand Tour

Tuesday 13 September 2016
7:30

It’s not about the destination. It’s about the journey…

Timothy Gandy had become invisible … to his wife, his family and to himself.

His life was just passing by – redundancy led to a steady stream of uncreative uselessness, broken only by the odd bit of shelf and cupboard fixing for one of his children. They were all grown, and grown away from home, not needed by him any longer. Then, quite suddenly, a disaster was imprinted onto this strangely colourless world. Yet out of that disaster there rose an opportunity, and once the shock had passed, Timothy realised he could take his future into his own hands.  Chancing upon a copy of J Addison’s account of his Grand Tour in the early 18th century, he decided, with mounting excitement to set off on his own Grand Tour. It was to be a journey of discovery; a reminder of his own artistic talent, of the wonders to be found in unexpected places, of kindness, grief, love and – finally - his own place in the world.

Alan Titchmarsh was the main presenter of ‘Gardeners’ World’ and the hugely popular ‘Ground Force’, and has also presented ‘How To Be A Gardener’, ‘British Isles – A Natural History’, ‘The Great British Village Show’ and ‘The Nature of Britain’. His own daytime show on ITV, ‘The Alan Titchmarsh Show’, ran for eight years and he presents his own radio show on Classic FM on Saturday mornings.  He writes regularly in BBC Gardeners’ World Magazine and Country Life and is gardening correspondent of The Daily Express and The Sunday Express, and writes in The Sunday Telegraph as well. Alan has written more than 50 gardening books, a Christmas anthology, nine novels, four volumes of memoirs and a miscellany celebrating England and Englishness.

Hitchin Town Hall is located on Brand Street in Hitchin (SG5 1JE). Tickets are £18.99 and include a copy of his hardback book. To book tickets, please ring the shop on 01462684631, call in or go to http://alantitchmarsh.eventbrite.com (there is a £1.76 booking fee online).
