Botanist, Best-Selling Writer and Broadcaster, James Wong will Discuss and Sign his Cookbook, How to Eat Better

Tuesday 11 April 2017
7:30 pm

‘As a botanist obsessed with food, I am forever surprised by how simple tweaks can radically alter the chemical compositions of crops, even when they are sitting on your kitchen counter. With just a few ridiculously easy hints and tips you could dramatically improve the nutritional value of everything from fruit and veg to carbs and coffee, thanks to the miracle of kitchen chemistry.’ James Wong.

Want to cut the calories and raise the fibre in potatoes and still have identical flavour? Get supermarket blueberries with loads more antioxidants that cost virtually half the price? Cook up carrots that are twice as phytonutrient dense and yet taste sweeter? All for less effort? A little kitchen science can do that! Between the rush to keep up with the latest miracle ingredient, anxiety about E-numbers, and demonization of gluten/dairy/sugar, many of us are left in a virtual panic in the supermarket aisle. How to Eat Better strips away the fad diets, superfood fixations and Instagram hashtags to give you a straight-talking scientist’s guide to making everyday foods measurably healthier (and tastier) simply by changing the way you select, store and cook them.

James Wong is a Kew-trained botanist, writer and broadcaster based in London.  He is the author of the best-selling books Grow Your Own Drugs and Homegrown Revolution as well as presenter of programmes including BBC2’s award-winning Grow Your Own Drugs and the BBC’s coverage of the world-renowned RHS Chelsea Flower Show.

Tickets are £6, which are deductible from the cost of the hardback book (£20.00) if purchased on the evening. To book tickets, please ring the shop on 01462684631 or call in to the shop.
