Description
A new edition, revised and corrected by Samuel Birch. Three volumes identically bound in green cloth with gilt titles and decorations to the spines, and gilt decorations to top boards. Some light wear to spine ends, the boards are minimally marked, and remain clean robust and square. Hinges and text blocks firm, black end papers. There is a pencilled inscription to the front free end paper of Volume I, and some near invisible pencil scribble to the black end paper of this same volume . All volumes profusely illustrated with coloured plates, fold out maps and drawings and plans and lots of illustrations within the text. The tissue guard to Volume I frontispiece is browned causing some light brown marks to the title page. These books are generally free from foxing, just one or two pale brown marks here and there, otherwise the pages are smooth clean and bright. A very nice well preserved set.
